running late...10 minutes of frustration trying to put car seat in...eventually get everyone strapped in...kids whingeing...wait for garage door to open...start driving out...lily screaming for dummy...turn around to give her dummy...horrible sound of car scraping metal of garage door...uh-oh...note to self...never get distracted while driving...even in your own garage...expensive lesson to learn...

Scooby Scooby Doo where 'R' you...
Just a cute little video of Austin and Lily singing the Scooby Doo song, which is one of Austin's favourite cartoons but one that I dont really let him watch as it's too scary for Lily. There's no Teletubbies or Dora for Lily, she watches whatever Austin wants to watch!!!

barrenjoey lighthouse...
A few weeks back a friend at Austin's kindy got up for 'News' and told the class about his walk up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse with his family. Ever since then Austin has been nagging us to take him "When am I going to get to see the Lighthouse...". So on Sunday morning, with the rain finally stopped and Steve having a rare day off, we decided to go. We borrowed a friends baby carrier for Lily and off we went...
watching the Seaplane take off
some mothers get flowers...I always get feathers, so sweet...
there were lots of steep steps...
Austin, who is fond of the old "I too tired, can't walk anymore" suprised us by walking the whole way without complaint, and it was hard going at some points...
lots of muddy puddles, perfect for gumboots...
view from the top...
The Lighthouse!
I think Austin was expecting something a bit more exciting...flashing lights at least!!!
a well deserved break at the top...
back to the bottom, with a worn out little Bubble...

strike!!!
While Steve was sitting in a cold and wet stadium watching the Boks get smashed by the Wallabies we went 10 pin bowling. Austin got a strike and played a lot better than the last time we went so he was happy, Lily was just happy jumping up and down and giving high-5's after every bowl...

Rescue Chopper
Well the rain stopped briefly today so we decided to get out of the house and head up to Zubi to visit Steve. But on the way we saw a helicopter flying really low and hovering over the rocks at Warriewood beach so we parked at the top of the cliffs and got out for a closer look. It was all very exciting for the kids...along with the helicopters and the noise there were fire trucks, ambulance, police cars, police boats and a whole lot of people doing what we were doing. Apparently a broken surfboard had washed up on the beach and no one had seen the surfer come in. The sea was so rough and the area has a lot of rocks and a blowhole so although its exciting you have this sick feeling in your stomach that you really shouldn't be watching this and are just praying the guy will be found safe.
4 walls....
It has been raining ALL WEEK!!! And not just the occasional shower either, its been wild weather...gale force winds and torrential rain that hasn't let up, Sydney's wettest July in 60 years!
So with Austin also man-down with the flu we havent left the house much...we have been passing the time by watching a LOT of TV, playing endless games of snap, doing all our puzzles about 100 times each, making crunchies, painting, playing indoor soccer, having tea parties, making blanket tents and enough games of 'rosy' to last a lifetime.
It's been a long week....

sibling bonding...
When we moved into our tiny apartment space became a bit of an issue...
So with Austin and Lily sharing a smallish room we decided we would just let them share a big bed. Well they love it and most of the time sleep so nicely, with Austin telling us often he "loves to snuggle with Lily".
It's just so awesome to see their relationship develop (as Lily gets older...not because of the bed!!!) and they really are the best of friends. They love to wind eachother up and compete for our affection, in fact one of their favourite games is to cuddle into us and say "My mummy" or "My Daddy" to make the other one jealous.
But they absolutely love eachother...they play so nicely and really enjoy eachothers company - whether snuggling on the couch, playing imaginary games, bringing eachother snacks, comforting eachother when hurt or bonding over dinosaur shows on tv. It just melts my heart and I hope they never lose the love and affection they feel for eachother right now...

trauma teddy...
On Wednesday Lily woke up grumpy and with a temperature of 39c, the panadol wasn't working so off we went to the medical centre. The doctor was worried that she may have pneumonia because she had a crackling noise in her lungs and her oxygen levels were low. So we were rushed off to Mona Vale Hospital for further tests...
After chest xrays, oxygen tests and a few hours of observation, the doctor was convinced that she didnt have pneumonia or anything serious and was happy for her to go home with oral antibiotics. Better to be safe than sorry I suppose and Lily didn't mind at all, she slept through the whole thing...
the 'trauma teddy' which was given to her on admission, such a nice touch... |
featherdale wildlife park
On Tuesday we had a catch up with a bunch of my cousins and their children at Featherdale Wildlife Park. It was a bit of a long drive for us but what a beautiful day...it was great to see everyone and the kids had an absolute ball...feeding animals, climbing fences, kicking up dirt, running scared from the goats and most importantly (or so it seemed to them) collecting all the different stamps in their animal passports.
