Austin had his first real game of Football today. And by Football I mean the round ball (apparently we aren't allowed to call it soccer anymore). He did Little Kickers last year but that was mainly drills and ball skills, not proper games, so he's been super excited to start playing in a 'real' team.
He joined Narrabeen Football Club and for the last few weeks he's been training hard every Friday afternoon, but today was the BIG day. He woke up at 6am and wanted to leave straight away, pity his game didn't start till 10.45, lets just say it was a long morning trying to keep him occupied . . .
It was a beautiful Autumn day, a perfect day to be outdoors and such fun to watch the little boys running around, with no real plan other than them all trying desperately to get the ball. In the end his team did really well though and ended up winning 8-2, with Austin scoring 3 of the goals. He played so well, but most importantly he had an absolute ball.
before the game and super excited - how's that gap???
The Meteors
tongue out and concentrating
so happy after scoring his 1st goal
Arguing with his mate Scott about who was in the wrong after the other team scored. There was hand waving, pointing and yelling for about a minute, it was so funny.
Oranges at half time - nothing tastes sweeter
gutted because the couch told him he wasn't starting the 2nd half and had to be 1st sub
Austin had his school Athletics Carnival the other day on possibly the hottest March day ever, not that the kids cared, they were having too much fun. He is in the Blue House, or 'Amaroo' - an
Aboriginal word for 'place by the sea'.
All the Kindy - Grade 2's, waiting to start their races
His class - KJP - he's the one in blue waving
Waving away at us again, he looks so little next to some of the biggest kids in his class
egg & spoon race
dominating the sack race (he's in blue)
He came 2nd in his sprint race and kept saying "mum it was soooo close, Jacob only beat me by this much" - (with 2 little fingers squeezed together)
So proud of his 2nd place sticker, and was gloating "Mum, Taj came last and he only got a sticker with a smiley face and no number"
And his favourite part of the day "I went on a bus Mummy - without you or Daddy".
Ok so Austin has already lost his first tooth but it doesn't really count as it was pulled out by the dentist. On Sunday he had his first real wobbly tooth. He was super excited and was so careful with it all day, not biting down on anything hard - he wanted it to stay in so he could show his friends at school the next day.
Still there - just . . .
It stayed in all day Monday, then on Tuesday morning when he woke up and complained that it was sore. He went into Grandpa and asked him take it out, he obviously didn't trust me!!! It was basically hanging by one thread and popped out so easily. Then followed the excitement of waiting a whole day and night for the tooth fairy to come.
It's gone
Lily feeling left out - showing me her teeth
The Tooth Fairy left him $2 and naturally he wanted to spend it straight away but had to wait until he got home from school. Steve took him out to buy his absolute favourite chocolate - a kinder surprise.
Lily is turning 3 soon and every time I asked her what kind of party she wanted she would give me about 10 different themes, "I want a ballerina party, no I want a pirate party, no mummy I want a Dora party"(not on my watch) etc etc. Eventually I sat down with the Womans Weekly Cake Book and said "choose your cake". She still changed her mind about a 100 times but we finally settled on the one that was on the front cover, a fairy house/toadstool. And I think the only reason we settled on it was because it was on the front cover - thankfully it wasn't a cricket bat or something on the cover.
So now we have the theme the party planning starts in earnest - I do tend to go overboard a bit - but I absolutely love it.
Pics for the party invite - the teacups had 100's and 1000's in them - the only way I could get her
to sit still and smile for the camera.
With Lily turning 3 in a few weeks time she is now old enough to start some of her own activities, rather than just being draggged around to Austin's. She started swimming lessons the other day and was so excited. "I go swimming without you mummy? with a teacher? like Austin does?". She had a ball and got moved up a class straight away, well all they tested is that she would put her head under water, blew bubbles and moved away from the teacher, which she had no problem doing - she spends every night in the bath with her head under water snorkelling which has been good practice.
Lily absolutely loves preschool and we have to basically drag her out when we pick her up, she never wants to leave. She plays with the boys mostly and if you ask her she will tell you "I have 3 boyfriends Ollie, Max and Grae and I don't play with the girls".
On Saturday we went to Ollies 3rd birthday party at the Newport Motor Yacht Club which has a pool the guests can use. It was pouring with rain but this didn't bother the kids, they all got in and had a ball.
So after years of dreaming and talking and drooling over boats Steve finally got himself one, I haven't seen him so excited and happy in ages. Thanks Brian for encouraging him and helping him buy it, as if being a cafe widow wasn't bad enough now I am a fishing widow too . . .
Our head barista, Denis, is originally from Brazil and for a while last year we had his brother Dudu working for us as well, until he moved up to Byron Bay. Lily loves Dudu so she was super excited when he came over to visit while on a trip down to Sydney.
The boys played a game of backyard soccer, the Brazillian brothers showed off their ball skills and tricks, Austin was very impressed...
Austin had his last Nippers for the season on Sunday, boy that went fast!!! He's had an absolute ball and made lots of friends and am sure he'll continue with it for years to come. One of the best things for me is that it's forced us to get up and out of the house early, even if some weeks all I want to do is hang around in my pj's.
The Wak - all the kids LOVE the WAk, and each age group takes turns to use it each week, the older kids use it in the water, but the younger ones just use it as a trampoline on the sand.
Monica and Lily - it was awesome to have both sets of Grandparents there to watch his last Nippers
Water Games - Austin yelling out "Nah Nah Nah Na Na - you can't get me" - trying to encourage the adults to throw buckets of water on him
And running away when they did . . .
They had a 'siblings flag race' as a special treat for all the young ones who have watched their brothers and sisters compete week after week. Lily was so funny, everyone took off and she just lay there for about 10 seconds before eventually being persuaded to follow the others, she came dead last, it was more leisurely stroll than run.
Monica (Steve's mum) wasted no time getting stuck into the garden of the new house, ripping out the overgrown weeds and sorting out a herb garden for us. We now have an awesome herb garden with basil, coriander, thyme, rosemary, oregano, celery, parsley, chives, chilli plants, along with a passionfruit vine along the back fence, yummy - can't wait for that to start flowering. Her little helper Austin will be left in charge of looking after the plants and watering them when she goes back to South Africa.
